North Carolina's Road Team

Road Team logo

In an effort to promote highway safety and inform the general public about the trucking industry, the North Carolina Trucking Association, through the NC Trucking Association Foundation, formed the North Carolina Road Team. The Road Team consists of commercial truck drivers who excel at their profession and are dedicated to safety, courtesy, and responsibility.

The men and women selected each year to serve on the North Carolina Road Team must be full time commercial truck drivers with excellent safe driving records, and must have the ability to relate the positive safety aspects of the transportation industry and its importance to a vibrant economy.

Presentations include school assemblies, driver education classes, business events, civic gatherings, safe driver banquets, driver meetings, and career events. Nominations to participate must be received by March 31st each year. Road Team members serve one-year terms, but "alumni" frequently assist with large events, such as the North Carolina State Fair. Judges that select the NC Road Team each year include representatives of the NC State Highway Patrol, its Motor Carrier Enforcement Section, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the Governor's Highway Safety Program.

PRESENTING THE 2008-2009 NORTH CAROLINA ROAD TEAM

Mr. Ernest Woodruff – Smithfield Transportation

Ernest drives out of Tar Heel, NC and has a career 5 million safe driving miles. He has been in the transportation industry for 36 years and was the NCTA driver of the year in 2006. He and his wife Edna live in Wilson. Ernest reflects the image of a professional while performing his daily duties and believes that safety is the foundation of the transportation industry.

Mr. David Britt – WalMart Transportation

David is a 1984 graduate of the NC Truck Driver Training School and has accumulated 2.5 million safe driving miles. David and his wife Denise have two children, Allen and Hannah. David believes everyone should be a defensive driver and be prepared to make the decisions that other drivers will not. Every driver’s safety is his responsibility when he shares the road with others.

Mr. Bernard Wallace – Roadway Express

Bernard has driven for Roadway 10 out of his 18 years in the industry. He has over 400,000 safe driving miles and is also an American Legion member. He and his wife Beverly live in Winston-Salem. Kenneth is active in his church and volunteers at the Conover Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He and his wife Pamela live in Conover. Kenneth believes in order to give the public a favorable impression of the industry, a driver must display those qualities that others are not always willing to give. Highway courtesy and personal integrity are goals he strives to display to the public on a daily basis.

Mr. Harold Snyder – Wilson Trucking Corp.

Harold is a local P&D driver from the Greensboro area. He is a 21 year safe driver with Wilson and seven-time NC TDC Champion. Harold won the Pre-trip award at the National TDC in 2004 and is an Eagle Scout. He and his wife Robin have two children Sommer and Spencer and live in Kernersville. Harold believes it is important that all motorists understand the limitations of a CMV driver and the visibility problems with which drivers deal. He will stress the importance of attentive driving while avoiding distractions.
