SAFETY DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR
On July 23rd through July 26th, 2009 the NCTA Safety Management Council held it’s annual Safety Conference at the Grand Dunes Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC. Mr. Gary W. Bunn of Crown LSP Group, Inc. Rocky Mount, NC was the recipient of the Safety Director of the Year award.

Gary started his transportation career in 1978 as a truck driver hauling agricultural products up and down the east coast. In 1983 he joined c.s. Henry Transfer of Rocky Mount, NC as an over the road driver. During his time as an OTR driver he received many safe driving awards that included Driver of the Year and One Million Miles of Accident Free Driving. In 1993 he was brought into Safety Management with Henry, eventually becoming Director of Safety. After leaving Henry in 2001 he joined Harold A Puryear Trucking of Raleigh, NC where he served five years as Director of Safety and Operations. Since 2006 he has been employed with Crown LSP Group, Inc., an industry leader in highway safety, as Director of Safety and Recruiting.
Gary joined the Safety Management Council in 1993 and has served on numerous committees during his time with the council. Along with Chairing the TDC he has served as the Down East Chapter Chairman in 1998 and Council Chairman in 2004 and 2008. After recently completing his second term as Chairman he is currently serving on the Advisory to the Chair Committee.
